Hedgehope Communication Tower

Foundation Re-Strengthening

Client: Ground Anchor Systems

Date: March 2023 - April 2023

Value: $88,000

Description:

Southlands Hedgehope Communications Tower, standing at 117m tall, required additional strengthening to each of its four corner plinth foundations. Ground Anchor Systems engaged Strata Civil to undertake all excavation and concrete work for these piers which included;

  • Excavate around maximum 2 plinths at a time. Wind speeds needed to be monitored, once the wind rose above a threshold only one plinth could remain with an open excavation. This meant if two excavations were open , one would be having steel tied, while the other would only be getting scabbled and holes drilled in order to ensure it could be backfilled if need be.

  • Scabble existing concrete faces of plinth to allow for Type-B construction joint.

  • Scan to locate steel in existing plinth. Drill holes for new starter bars.

  • Bend and install all new rebar onsite.

  • Form for concrete and install x3 200mm drossbachs per plinth.

  • Pour new 40MPA concrete reinforced thickening onto plinths.

  • Backfill and compact using a mixture of site won fill and AP40.

Once all concrete works to the plinths had been completed, Ground Anchor Systems we able to install  anchors through the drossbachs to finish the project.
